Chanel pre-fall collection 2013, Hair stylist Sam Mcknight took inspiration for this look from the Elizabethan period with the height of the style, crimping, backcombing, curls and braids. As well as using modern day hair pieces which had the same extravagant look as the hair adornments used in the Elizabethan period.

Beyonce portrays a queen in her O2 advert as she is known as 'Queen B'. This has Elizabethan references in this advert because of her hair. This is because it features Elizabethan techniques like crimping, frizzing and padding. Also the colour of the hair is very Elizabethan as the blonde and lighter hair was preferred in the 16th century. To make this contemporary they positioned it on the side of the head instead of in the middle which I think goes very well with the accessories such as the crown and the fashion styling. She also has a zig zag look falling down by her ears, which Queen Elizabeth I used to wear all the time which is shown through her portraiture.

'Reign' is a non-factual television show spin on the Tudor/Elizabethan 16th century. It is deliberately a modern/contemporary interpretation of this time period to be understandable to its target audience of teens. It has modern fashions, modern hair, modern make up and slightly modern story lines with a supernatural theme included in it.

Reign has incorporated plaits into a lot of their hairstyles which were used widely in the Elizabethan times. The one thing that stood out to me with the hair styling was the use of hair accessories. This was very fashionable in the 16th century with jems, pearls and jewels. Headbands encrusted with diamonds as well and I believe the hair and fashion department had thought about this when deciding how to create each character their look.

The hairstylist, Dana Kalder designs are very modern and she seems to have a theme of the hair pretty much always being down where as in the Elizabethan times they would pretty much always have it up. I like her take on this because I think it matches the supernatural theme of the show and keeping the show contemporary and high fashion.
